OTPF. To most, that might look like 4 random letters thrown together. For me, as an OT student, OTPF screams Occupational Therapy Practice Framework. I have only just began to learn about it, but I am learning about it from 3 different courses, from 3 different professors, in 3 different contexts.
So, what is it? An easy way to think of it is to look it like its a common ground between all OT personnel. From within, we look at it like a set of guidelines, some may even go as far as describing it as the "Bible of OT". It lets all those within the field know and understand that we are all working towards the same goal and using the same processes to get there. Briefly, we aim to aid our clients in the most holistic way by viewing things from a top-down approach. This approach focuses on what the client wants to engage in and stemming from there to help them do so. From the outside looking in, the OTPF might be a helpful tool to look at if you are wondering what OT even is. You would be able to see what guides our profession, the approach we take in practicing, and different interventions we use to best help our clients.
